History of the house
The name Bethanienruh leads directly to Berlin. In Berlin-Kreuzberg, a famous quarter, King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. foundet the "Central Diakonissenhaus Bethanien". A house for deaconesses.
In 1909, so exactly 100 years ago, the benefactor, Hildegard von Bethmann-Hollweg, founded the latest house of the "Strandvillen Bethanienruh". She came from a traditional rich banker family and since she was very young she cared about others. In 1889, with 29, she began her duty as a cadet nurse in ther Berlin deaconess hospital Bethanien. After five years she was second hospital matron. She gave a good share of her private fortune to build the new "Strandville Bethanienruh". After the inauguration on the 20th of July 1909 22 deaconesses at a time could recover there.
A stone plate at the entrance to the villa commemorades the benefactor. The plate holds the Bible quote: .....
